Synopsis The evil geniuses at KAOS have hatched a diabolical plot to dominate the planet, and their plot gets under way as they attack the headquarters of the U.S. spy agency Control. As a result of the attack, the identity of every agent working for Control has been compromised. Realizing that the only way to thwart KAOS' evil plan is to promote eager but inexperienced Control analyst Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) to the rank of special agent, the Chief (Alan Arkin) reluctantly teams Smart with Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) -- a veteran super-spy whose beauty is only surpassed by her lethality. With no real field experience to speak of and nothing but sheer enthusiasm and a handful of fancy spy gadgets to help him accomplish his deadly mission, Maxwell Smart and his new partner, Agent 99, will be forced to faces malevolent KAOS head Siegfried and his evil plan.


Get Smart is a great movie for some laughs. It has some crude humor in it, but not enough to deliver a bad response. Steve Carrel is my favorite comedian and he lives up to that in this movie.

The slapstick humor in this movie, followed by the secret agent genre, reminds me a lot of the old Pink Panther films. In fact, I think they stole a few gags from the Pink Panther movies. It goes to show that a secret agent slapstick film can only go to a certain point without getting old and repetitive. (However, despite this, they are still making a Steve Martin Pink Panther sequel (which I am looking forward to.)

So even though we've seen all the gags that this movie brings before, we still are amused by watching a clumsy secret agent hurt himself while trying to look professional. That must mean it's entertaining, right? Right.

I wish that there could be more of this kind of humor nowadays. Today, the world is laughing at the crude and offensive crap that actors like Adam Sandler and Jim Carey bring us. It makes me glade that some actors like Steve Carrel and Steve Martin still have a better sense of humor (most of the time) despite what the perverted majority says.
